1949年6月2日，青岛解放，青岛解放后，改属山东省辖市。1981年，青岛市被列为全国15个经济中心城市之一。1984年4月，青岛市被列为全国14个进一步对外开放的沿海港口城市之一。 1986年10月15日，青岛市被国务院正式批准在国家计划中实行单列，赋予省级经济管理权限。1994年2月，青岛市被列为全国15个副省级市之一。

On June 2, 1949, Qingdao was liberated and became a city under the jurisdiction of Shandong Province. In 1981, Qingdao was listed as one of the 15 economic centers in China. In April 1984, it was designated as one of the 14 coastal port cities to be further opened up to the outside world. On October 15, 1986, the State Council officially approved Qingdao to be listed separately in the national plan and granted it provincial-level economic management authority. In February 1994, Qingdao was listed as one of the 15 sub-provincial cities in China.
In 2025, Qingdao Chinese International Network will launch the special issue "100 Reasons to Come to Qingdao", which will collate the elaborate production of netizens from the Internet and recommend Qingdao to domestic and foreign tourists.
